About the Business

Collins Compost operates out of Collins Powder Hill Farm in Enfield, Connecticut.  Owned and managed by Jack and Mavis Collins with the help of their son John, Powder Hill Farm is a 200-acre dairy operation that includes John's herd of registered Holsteins.

In response to inconsistent milk prices and the ever-increasing cost of farming, the Collins family began diversifying in the early 90's to keep their operation viable.  Collins Compost began in 1992 with the arrival of a large quantity of the Town of Enfield's autumn leaves and a steady supply of cow manure from the farm.

Originally sold only in bulk at the farm, Collins Compost has expanded to include delivery service and 40 lb. bags for sale at multiple locations.
